An indented earthenware plate printed with the Fitzhugh pattern. The pattern is named for the FitzHugh family, active in the East India Company who brought back from China a porcelain service in the late 18th century. The central medallion in this pattern contains flowers of the 4 seasons: Peony for spring, Lotus for summer, Chrysanthemum for autumn and Prunus for winter. The Four Treasures, or Accomplishments are music, chess, calligraphy and painting. In this example the factory used a Butterfly border commonly found on the early Buffalo pattern. The pattern is based on a Chinese original porcelain design.
Condition: Good. 3 tiny chips to the plates rim and on tiny stilt mark in the dish.
