Description:
An earthenware plate. Printed with the Great Wall of China pattern. The scene incorporates elements from at least five different engravings in the Staunton book. Reference Staunton, Sir George Leonard An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of England to the Emperor of China (with engravings by William Alexander), London, G. Nicol, Pall Mall, 1797. One has to look carefully to find the “wall” that gave the pattern its name.
Condition: Very good.
