A round ironstone plate printed in black underglaze with a factory named pattern “Oriental”. Gilding was added overglaze to the floral border. This pattern appears on a much earlier version printed in blue as part of a Davenport series named Chinese in Gazebo. The scene was copied from a William Alexander colored print named “A Chinese Lady and Her Son”, c. 1805. Possibly made in the late period of Davenport or by Till & Son who may have aquired Davenport’s copper plates when it’s factory closed. A marked Till & Son example matching this one has been documented.
Condition: Very good.
