Description:
This large platter is a fine example of the excellence in British engraving and printing.  It is one of my favorite pieces. The pattern was formerly attributed to Herculaneum, but that attribution has recently been discounted. It is now attributed to William Walsh of Burslem based on a marked piece, now documented in the TCC Database. Michael Sack is credited with identifying and recording the source prints for the features in this pattern. The main building is from a source print titled “Mausoleum of Sultan Purveiz”. The mountain is from “South East View of Tritchinopoly”. The procession in the foreground is from “Eastern Gate of the Jummah Musjid at Delhi”. The tree on the right (reversed) is from “The Sacred Tree of the Hindoos at Gyah, Bahar”. The ruin on the left is from “Ruins at the Antient(sic) City of Gour Formerly on the Banks of the River Ganges”.
Condition: Very Good. Small amount of glaze loss on rim and underside due to firing. One small rim chip on the underside.
