Description:
An early earthenware  basket with matching pierced stand printed in blue underglaze with the Buddleia pattern. The pattern name, Buddleia, was adopted because of the resemblance to  the Buddleia Lindleyana. While the outer Butterfly border is found on flatware, this example only uses the inner honeycomb border pattern. The pattern is recorded in Robert Copeland’s book, Spode’s Willow Pattern and Other Designs after the Chinese, pp. 80-83. Copeland is careful to “attribute” this pattern to Spode documenting workmen’s painted marks. This example is marked with Spode’s Workman’s Mark Painted WMP 19. Provenance, George Worlock Collection.
Condition: Very good condition.
