Description:
A molded and arcaded rectangular basket or tureen stand. This pattern is similar to a pattern made by Sowter’s & Co., Mexborough. What distinguishes this version of the pattern from others attributed to Sowter’s & Co. is the unusual use of the grapevine design printed on the border. It is the same border pattern that was used for the Winemakers pattern, for which the maker is unknown. In spite of the minor condition issues, this piece is unique given the use of the grapevine border with a Chinoiserie design.
Condition: Good. Two small rim chips to the front edge, two to the underside and a hairline in the glaze only on the underside.
