Description:
A large earthenware jug printed in blue underglaze with the Chinaman with Rocket pattern with the initials “RSJ” painted in  brown and dated 1800. The rim has been enameled over the glaze in the same coffee brown color. This pattern, taken from a Chinese original, was made by several unknown potters in addition to a marked example by  STEVENSON. (See FOB Bulletin #106).  The pattern is most often found on hollowware. The border, known as the Bell border, is the most commonly found border with this pattern. This pattern originated in the late 18th century.
Condition: Good. Some wear to the enameling around the rim and tanning throughout the body. Could easily be cleaned.
