Description:
An earthenware commemorative jug  printed in blue with a line-engraved pattern known as Chinaman with Rocket. This pattern was produced several  potters, among them were Ralph Stevenson and Minton. It is most commonly found on hollow ware. The border, known as the Bell Border, is usually used with the pattern. The Chinaman with Rocket pattern originated in the late 18th century and has its origin in an early hand-painted Chinese porcelain pattern. Painted in brown underglaze is the name of “James Taylor Heywood” and the date “1800”. Heywood is a small town situated north of Manchester in Lancashire. This item was featured in Extraordinary British Transferware, 1780-1840, by R & R Halliday, p. 239, Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 2012 and in Chinoiserie: Printed British Ceramics in the Chinese Style, 1750-1900, by R. Halliday and L. Zeller, p. 174, Gomer Press, 2018.
Condition:  Very Good. It has two invisible, professionally restored small nicks to the rim, one to the very tip of the spout and a 1.5″ tight hairline where the spout meets the body.
