Description:
A  globular shape commemorative jug printed in blue underglaze in the Chinoiserie High Bridge pattern with brown enameling added to the rim. The jug has the initials “EH” painted within an oval  in brown under the spout. The pattern was developed from two source prints from “An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of England to the Emperor of China: (with engravings by William Alexander)” by Staunton, Sir George Leonard, 1797. The two left-most figures come from “View of the Suburbs of a Chinese City” shown above. The boat comes from “Chinese Barges of the Embassy Preparing to Pass under a Bridge” from the same book. An example of this pattern marked Davenport is also included in this collection.
Condition:
Very good. Spout and rim have been professionally restored
