An earthenware commemorative jug printed in blue with the Boy on a Ram pattern with over the glaze enameling in brown, green, ocher, and yellow colors. Painted in brown is the name of “John Webster”, the date “1810” and several images of blacksmith’s tools including an anvil, bellows, nails, hammers, and assorted forge tools. This jug would have been made to commemorate an important event for Mr. John Webster in the year 1810. Another example of this pattern can be found in the collection on a large punch pot. While the maker is unknown, some examples in this pattern have been attributed to Swansea. This item was featured in Extraordinary British Transferware, 1780-1840, by R & R Halliday, p. 221, Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 2012.
