Description:
A rare earthenware jug printed in blue underglaze with a pattern given the name “Lakeside Stroll with Parasol”. Hand painted under the spout of the jug is a delightful lion in a landscape setting along with the initials “M W” in gold above it. This is a panoramic scene in which we find a pavilion with trees and a group of three Chinese figures, one holding a parasol shading the other, on one side next to a lake with a boat with flying pennant and mountain peaks in the background. On the other side, are two buildings side by side surrounded by a fence and a large tree on the left side. A small dog below runs toward the boat. A floral border is printed on the outside and a border of geometric design is printed on the interior of the jug. Brown enameling is found on the jug’s rim, at the base of the collar and at the base of the handle.
Condition: Very Good. A professional restoration to 2 chips to the inner rim and to one small chip to the handle. Enameling on the rim has also been restored.
