An earthenware indented plate printed underglaze in blue . The name “Peter Willey” and the date “1818” were painted underglaze in the uppermost center of the plate. The Willey family is said to have been of Cornish decent. Dedicated flatware pieces are less commonly found than hollow ware pieces which makes this plate a rare example of commemorative flatware. Two other plates with the names “Thomasine” and “Grace Willey” from this same family is also known to have survived. The former is in the Potteries Museum collection, Stoke on Trent.
