Description:
A fine example of an early earthenware basket and stand printed in blue underglaze in a line engraved Buffalo pattern, type D. The stand is reticulated with a molded basket-weave pattern. The basket was made with individual ribs laced together in the middle with a rope pattern painted in dark blue underglaze. A bold honeycomb pattern was printed on the rim of the stand. A molded rope shaped trim surrounds the printed pattern on inner base. An outstanding example of early printed and molded ware. A workman’s mark (circle with center dot) is printed on the base of both pieces. This mark has been attributed by some to the Cambrian Pottery.
