A moon-shaped earthenware flask printed in blue with cuttings from the Emerging Boats pattern. This design was used by New Hall, but the border pattern found on this flask is different from the New Hall version. A complete pattern for this version has not been found. Relief motifs were applied to both sides which are illustrated above. The discerning eye will note that the two larger molds were positioned differently on each side. These molded motifs are often referred to as sprig molds which were made separately and, then, applied to the main body. The classical design of these reliefs appear to be in contrast to the style of the printed Chinoiserie fragments and border suggesting that this shape may have been used with other non-chinoiserie patterns, or with no printed or painted pattern at all. An attribution to William & John Turner has been suggested but remains unproven.  Provence: Cohen Collection
