Description:
An earthenware milk or water jug printed in blue underglaze with the Blue Bamboo pattern with gilt decoration added. This pattern is also known as “Chinese Vase.” The focal point is a Chinese musician seated within a large vase and playing a mandolin. The vase sits on a large table in a garden and is surrounded by a large flower on the right and tall stylized bamboo plants on both sides. The border consists of a floral pattern in the outer rim and a geometric pattern on the inner rim. This example has an impressed WEDGWOOD mark. The pattern was engraved by William Brookes for Wedgwood & Co. in 1805.
Condition:
Very good. Only a spider crack in the glaze on the underside of the jug. This crack does not go through the body and is not seen on the inside. Very minor wear to the gilding on the handle.
