An earthenware jug with molded handle and spout. The top of the handle has a molded strap across it and an acanthus leaf molded design at the terminal. A molded acanthus leaf is also found under the spout of the jug. The pattern, Elephant and Castle, is named for the elephant with a howdah shaped like a castle turret.  This design is documented in the Ralph Wedgwood pattern book and the original was produced c. 1798-1801. Both Herculaneum and Turner are known to have used the unusual handle design, but exact attribution of this piece is not possible as it is unmarked.
