Description:
A large earthenware ovoid-shaped jug printed in blue with the a variation of the Net Pattern.  In this pattern, the original center net design has been modified, and it eliminates the net background for which the original pattern was named. Only one of the temple landscape designs that contain fishing boats found in the medallions used on the original Net patterns was used for this pattern. The second landscape design found on this piece  is of a rural continental setting with a cottage or church-like building and a round tower topped with a cross. The two alternating medallion designs on this jug are framed with borders made up of geometric shapes or symbols and are surrounded by an all-over floral pattern. See this pattern in the Friends of Blue Bulletin #144, p.4, where it is given the title Net II due to the presence of the building with round tower. See Net Variation #02, pattern #16983 in the TCC database for another variation of Net.
Condition:  Very Good. Minor professional restoration to the jug’s spout.
