Description:
A pearlware mug printed in blue underglaze with in a transitional Chinoiserie pattern, originally assigned the name “Boy with a Whip”. The pattern name has been changed to Boy with a Fishing Pole, as it more accurately describes what the boy is holding. Over the glaze, painted in brown enamel with the words “For a Friend” and the date, “1814.” A floral border was used on the interior rim. Note: A large jug, named and dated with the same 1814 date, printed in the same pattern with the same bamboo shaped handle is also held in this collection: See J49. Attributed to Dillwyn & Co.
Condition: Very good. Two small chips on the base, barely noticeable.
