Description:
Dinner plate printed with the Chinese Sports pattern, Leapfrog. In this pattern the children are playing leapfrog. Minton first produced this series in 1810 in hand painted bone china and assigned it number 539 (See P214 in this collection). The source for the patterns in this series is a collection of engraved designs published by Jean-Baptiste Pillement in 1759. The painted bone china version of the series was soon followed by the printed versions on earthenware (see also other blue printed and printed and painted examples from this series in this collection).
Condition: Good: On 1/4″ chip to the rim on the front and a similar chip on the back side. Also found is a firing flaw on the front rim at about 5:30 o’clock.
