Description:
An earthenware dinner plate printed in blue underglaze with a variation of the Fitzhugh pattern. It has an impressed date mark of “T/83”, 1883 and was made by Copeland. It also has an attractive retailer’s mark printed in dark green for John Mortlock, Oxford and Orchard Streets, London. Added is a painted pattern mark, 1274. The pattern is an interesting variation of the early Spode Fitzhugh pattern taken from the Chinese. It is missing the center medallion of the earlier version and has the New Bridge border instead of the earlier trellis and dagger border.
Condition: Good: Has surface marks from utensils and a small chip on the back side of the rim.
