Description:
An earthenware plate with a molded gadrooned border printed in medium blue underglaze in the India Temple pattern. This made-for-order plate has the name G. Wilson printed underglaze in the same blue. The pattern is copied from a source print, illustrated here:
The caption under the engraving reads “The Figure of Heaven is all Delightful–A View of the Temple serv’d by Eunuchs, & of the delicious Round Island it stands upon”. A colored version of the print appears in the 1973 book Log of the Centurion. The central pattern is framed in a version of the “Catherine’s Wheel” border and the principal border is of a floral and geometric shape motif.
Condition: Very good.
