An earthenware dinner plate printed in blue with the Parasol and Birds #2 pattern. The original design had no birds in flight although this plate has one. A documented Rainforth & Co. marked plate is known. It has two birds in flight. The Chinese pattern, from which this pattern was adapted, was copied from a design by Dutch artist Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759) who drafted several designs for the Dutch East India Co. and their export trade c. 1735. The pattern is documented in Chinoiserie: Printed British Ceramics in the Chinese Style, 1750-1900, by R. Halliday and L. Zeller, Gomer Press, 2018.
