Description:
An earthenware plate printed in blue underglaze with the Pavilion and Column pattern.  This is a busy pattern with lots to look at. Some of the motifs are rather strange such as the “Santa-like hat” on the boat in the water between the upper island and main pattern. The upper island has a narrow, hilly roadway in the center with what look like many balls rolling down toward the water. The zig-zag fence around the pavilion or temple disappears into the water in the lower front of the scene. The pattern is illustrated on a plate in the Friends of Blue exhibition catalog, True Blue, 1998, Case 1, No. 14 on p. 97 and described on pp. 55-56.
Condition: Very good.
