This earthenware soup plate was printed in blue underglaze with the “Stevenson’s Willow” pattern According to Geoffrey Godden, Andrew Stevenson used this impressed mark c. 1815+; however, the engraving of the pattern appears to be earlier than that. Ralph Stevenson was in partnership with John Dale from c. 1801. In FOB Bulletin # 106, Renard Broughton presents a case for the impressed mark seen here as belonging to Ralph Stevenson. This pattern has the same Chinese source as the Wolfe-Mason Empty Wooden Bridge pattern.
