An early oval earthenware platter printed in blue underglaze with a line engraved version of the Buffalo pattern, also known as Boy on a Buffalo. The design was taken from an original Chinese export porcelain pattern and was made by several potteries in the late 18th century. This version is Spode’s Type B. The pattern is one of Spode’s earliest Chinoiserie patterns
