Description:
This large earthenware platter is printed in blue underglaze with the Chinese Export Boat pattern. Variations of this pattern occur on porcelain by New Hall as “Emerging Boat.” The Chinese Export Boat pattern is also known on Stone China. It is based on a Chinese hand-painted design that is also the ceramic source for Spode’s Rock Pattern. The stone china marked pattern is early 19th century whereas the New Hall porcelain Emerging Boat pattern dates to the 1790s. While this platter is not marked it can be attributed to J & W Ridgway mark.
