Description:
An octagonal earthenware platter. An alternate name for the pattern is La Dame au Parasol. This is a most unusual shape for this leafed out version of Lady with Parasol and the butterfly border is rarely found on variations of this pattern. The trees are leafed out, and there is more vegetation than in version #1 of this pattern. There is also the addition of a single masted sailing ship in the middle of this pattern just beyond the wall. The pattern is done with some shading of the blue ink achieved with a form of stippling which may indicate a little later version than the one illustrated in P61 found in this collection. It is identified as Type D by Broughton and Howard Mumford in their extensive study of this pattern and its variations. With so many variations in the pattern, there are certainly a number of different makers as well.
Condition: Very Good.
