Item Number: D54
Shape Type: Sauce Tureen (without Ladle)
Pattern Name: Forest Landscape II
Date: c. 1800-1820
Dimensions: H 6.5″, W 5″, L 8″
Maker: Spode

Description:
An earthenware sauce tureen with attached stand printed in blue underglaze in the Forrest Landscape II pattern. There are two versions of this pattern by Spode. The difference is that the earlier one (Forest-Landscape I) is found only on dinnerware, and shows a more simple style of engraving with very little shading. This feature suggests the pattern may be a copy of a Chinese one according to Copeland1999 p. 83; however, no such pattern has surfaced. The pattern was in production for quite a long run as it is also known with a Copeland and Garrett mark, dating 1833-47.
Condition: Very Good: One very small chip on the inside of the cover.
