Description:
A large molded earthenware soup tureen with cover printed in blue underglaze with the Ceylon Temple pattern. An alternate name for the pattern is “Floral Horse.” This very stylized pattern includes three Chinese figures, two women and a man, standing in front of an elaborately decorated horse, all in the bottom foreground. The horse appears to be decorated with a floral pattern which has contributed to the alternate name of the pattern. A decorative printed mark with the pattern name, “Ceylon Temple” is found on the back of a dinner plate which is also in this collection, see P133. This example from my collection is recorded in the TCC Pattern Database.
Condition: Good condition with one chip under the base and a few small chips to the underside of the finial.
