Trembleuse Covered Cup and Saucer, Trench Mortar

Item Number:  T200
Shape Type: Trembleuse Covered Cup and Saucer
Pattern Name: Trench Mortar
Date: c. 1800-1805
Dimensions:  Saucer: D 4.5″; Bowl: H 3.125″
Maker: Minton
Maker’s Mark: Workman’s Mark
Description:
A covered trembleuse cup and saucer printed  with the Trench Mortar pattern. This example has been attributed to Minton based on a match with the pattern documented in Geoffrey Priestman’s book on Minton, pp. 74-75. Additionally, the cup has the well-known Minton “ring” handle and the patterns printed on the lid are the same as used with other known Minton covered pieces. It should be noted that Priestman assigned the name Pearl River House to the pattern. However, based on subsequent research, I have assigned the name Trench Mortar.
Condition: Very good. Minor tanning to the base of the cup. Tiny restored chip to the rim of the saucer.
