Description:
A very fine early Spode bone china tea set in the “new oval shape”. It was printed in Royal blue underglaze with the Two Temples I, Variation Temple pattern with gilt trim added. The set consists of teapot and stand (stand has a combed back), lidded sugar box, cream jug, waste bowl, and six cups and saucers. The cups and saucers are in the London shape. The teapot is 6.75″ high. An impressed “06” can be found on some saucers. Robert Copeland confirmed that the number was a maker’s mark identifying the individual who made the set. Also found is a printer’s mark, Copeland’s mark WMT11, on the same saucer.
Condition: Very good. Very minor loss of gilding and restoration to hairline on one cup.
