Description:
An extremely rare double handled, double spouted earthenware teapot printed with the Standard Willow Pattern. This large pot is 10″ high and 13″ from handle to handle and approximately 15″ from spout to spout. The pot has an inner vessel with lid connected to one spout and the exterior area around the inner vessel services the second spout. The pot would have been designed to prepare and serve two types of tea from the same vessel, likely for a tearoom or other location serving large numbers of clients. In spite of the wear and restoration work, this is an extremely rare and unusual pot. This item was featured in Extraordinary British Transferware, 1780-1840, by R & R Halliday, p. 115, Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 2012. It is also documented in Chinoiserie: Printed British Ceramics in the Chinese Style, 1750-1900, by R. Halliday and L. Zeller, Gomer Press, 2018.
Condition: Good. The pot has interesting old metal repairs and some damage: One handle has three metal staples, the lid also has a small chip and a two inch break with a staple repair, one spout has a chip in the tip, the second has been shortend, and finally, the inner lid has a metal replacement finial.
