Description:
A large earthenware serving tray with elegantly molded scroll-shaped handles printed in a line-engraved Two Figures II pattern which was based on a Chinese original. This example is in what Robert Copeland refers to as the “standard version of Two Figures II”, see Spode’s Willow Pattern and Other Designs after the Chinese, p. 69, plate 7. The butterfly border pattern is made up of geometric shapes and oriental symbols including butterflies and scrolls. This border is also commonly found on the Full Nankin pattern.  It has a blue printed Leaf Spray mark to which no maker can be definitively assigned. Some attribute it to Hollins while others assign it to the Cambrian Pottery. No specific attribution can be confirmed.
Condition: The tray is highly glazed and, with the exception of one small glaze chip that has been restored, it hardly appears used.
