Description:
A molded earthenware spill vase printed in underglaze blue. This pattern has been given a provisional name based on the four tall doors in the front of the temple. A distinguishing feature is that three of the four doors are framed in white, while the fourth door to the left is in blue. Note the two windows with crisscross frames above the center doors. The temple sits on a large extended and tiered platform which gives it a three dimensional appearance. In this wrap-around pattern, the temple is situated on a river’s edge and there are three other buildings on the opposite side of the river (see the additional image). This example is marked Davenport with both a decorative oriental printed pattern and an impressed anchor mark. Davenport used this molded spill vase shape for transfer printed as well as bat printed patterns.
Condition: Very Good.
