Description:
An rare earthenware wine cooler printed in blue underglaze with a line-engraved Willow I pattern. The cooler consists of an outer and inner vessel designed to be used to cool wine in a bottle. The decorative molded, fluted handles are hand painted to outline the molded design. This item was featured in Extraordinary British Transferware, 1780-1840, by R & R Halliday, p. 96, Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 2012. It is also featured in Chinoiserie: Printed British Ceramics in the Chinese Style, 1750-1900, by R. Halliday and L. Zeller, Gomer Press, 2018.
Condition: Good. Star crack on the underside, one of the lines goes up the side approximately 3 inches. Structurally sound.
