Description:
Not Chinoiserie but a favorite in the collection. An earthenware platter in flow blue underglaze transfer printed turkey pattern with molded rim. Rectangular shape with gadrooned edge. It has no less than 3 marks: 1) Copeland’s mark 338, printed mark for the retailer Jones McDuffee & Stratton of Boston, MA,
2) Copeland’s mark 266, 1894-1910, “Frank’s Boat Mark”, printed. 3) Copeland mark 211, 1890-1935, impressed, with registration no. 90067 (11 April 1890). Additional impressed marks are “IN 18″ (would stand for 18 inches, although the platter measures 19”)and “09” possibly for 1909 (difficult to read).
Condition: Very good.
