Jug, Pearl River House

Item Number: J129
Shape Type: Jug
Pattern Name: Pearl River House
Date: c. 1795-1805
Dimensions: H 6.75″
Maker: Unknown
Maker’s Mark: Unmarked
Description:
An early earthenware jug printed in blue underglaze with a line engraved version of the Pearl River House pattern. The handle was molded. A version of the Butterfly Border is printed both on the exterior and interior of the rim and a flower and leaf pattern was used on the handle. The pattern differs from the Trench Mortar pattern in that there are two tall fern-like trees whereas the Trench Mortar pattern has a willow tree in that spot.  The main difference between the Spode marked Pearl River House pattern and the Wedgwood & Co. example in the database is the small triangular shaped window at the top of the gable that is in that pattern and missing on the Spode examples. See T194 in this collection for a marked Spode example of this pattern printed on a teapot stand.
Condition:  Very Good. Small chips to the spout and inner rim were professionally restored.
