Description:
This large earthenware mug is printed in blue underglaze with the Fig Tree pattern. The rim of the mug is enameled in brown. It is a wrap-around pattern covering the entire circumference of the mug. The exterior border is made up of geometric motifs with oriental symbols. The border on the inside of the mug is the same as the inner border in Stevenson’s Willow Pattern. This rare example has an impressed STEVENSON mark. Another mug with impressed STEVENSON is documented by Anthony Bunce in the NCS Newsletter #97, page 8. This pattern is also found on an example of brown ware with yellow transfer printed pattern in this collection. The pattern is recorded in the TCC Pattern Database
Condition: Good. One hairline that begins in the bottom and moves up and across a 3.5″ portion of the bottom of the cylindrical wall of the mug. The mug is still structurally sound. It is rare to find a marked example of a Stevenson mug.
