Description:
An earthenware platter printed in blue underglaze with the Chinoiserie High Bridge pattern. Michael Sack is credited with identifying the source prints for this pattern. The two left-most figures come from the source print titled “View of the Suburbs of a Chinese City”. The boat in the center comes from “Chinese Barges of the Embassy Preparing to Pass under a Bridge” from the same book: “An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of England to the Emperor of China: (with engravings by William Alexander) “, by Staunton, Sir George Leonard. See P200 for a marked plate in this same pattern in this collection.
Condition: Very good. One hairline crack to the rim (see image).
