An earthenware fluted mug. It is printed in blue underglaze with The Caught Fish pattern on one side. A second undocumented pattern was added to the other side consisting of 2 Chinese figures with unusually long wing-like sleeves on their robes. They are seated in a rocky landscape. Brown enameling was added to the rim and molded handle. The Caught Fish pattern was documented by Roger Kemp in FOB1973-Bulletin No. 127, p. 3 on a teabowl and saucer. Another version of this pattern can be found in the Wedgwood & Co pattern book printed on a pull sheet included here. There are some minor differences between this pattern and the one printed on the mug and the border pattern appearing with this pattern in the Wedgwood and Co pattern book is different. This pattern was also printed on a tea canister in this collection. Provenance: Anthony Pugh-Thomas Collection and the Strong Collection.
Condition: Very Good. A tiny glaze chip can be found on the exterior border.
